Flex and Java presentation framework discussions

Given Alfresco’s “serious commitment to Flex”, James Ward’s response to Matt Raible’s Java presentation frameworks post is interesting. We’ve been having similar discussions internally at Optaros around this as well.

It’ll be interesting to see how well Alfresco addresses some of the challenges in Flex both authors mention, such as automated testing, printing, and accessibility, all of which will be critical if Alfresco really is going to re-build their web client on the Flex SDK.

I’m also particularly (and personally) concerned about accessibility, and I really hope Alfresco will address this challenge knowing it’s now a mandatory requirement for any socially responsible company.

A good point is Flex website states that ensuring a high level of accessibility is possible, managing keyboard and screen reader access.

I was not sure before reading James Ward’s response. Thanks to you two for having pointed out this point.
