Interesting post...I'm currently looking for a tried-and-true method for building a User Interface around a REST api.

The REST api is beyond my control, and may not be assumed to always operate as such...I'm curious how flexible the configuration of accessing any 3rd party web service is with Orbeon...it sure looks like the framework I'm looking for w/o having tested it yet.

Great to hear about your experience with Orbeon and Sling. Note that Form Builder/Form Runner has a REST API for persistence, and the basic CRUD operation should be easy to integrate with Sling. Search might be a little harder.

I was thinking of trying the Orbeon stuff on Sling after having lunch with Erik from Orbeon last week, so I'm happy to see that you beat me to it and that it was so easy!

As there's no forms processing/design functionality in Sling currently, I'd be very interested in pursuing the idea (I'm one of the Sling committers) - please keep us posted about your progress!

Excellent post! I am looking forward to more. Do you think that not having to convert forms data into objects and relational tables save you time? How much?
