As far as I know, the comparable product to alfresco and sharepoint from emc is centerstage.
and public price of centerstage is 250€ (all included) / user :/
http://www.emc.com/products/detail/software/centerstage.htm
More and more customers are moving to centerstage because it is full J2EE compliant + robust + not road-map-through-tunnel

Jason,

I could not disagree with you more. OSS ECM providers like Alfresco compete directly against legacy Enterprise vendors all of the time. As someone who is constantly talking to clients about ECM projects, I can tell you that companies of all sizes (although we mostly deal with Fortune 500) are considering open source for ECM. We've done migrations from Stellent, Interwoven, and Vignette to both Alfresco and Drupal. So the comparison is very appropriate and very real.

I also disagree with your assertion that MySQL never competes with Oracle. I see projects every day that would have used Oracle as a relational back-end had MySQL not been available.

What's been your experience? Where do you think the sweet spot is for open source ECM?

OSS ECM providers such as Alfresco compete in a different dimension. So this compare means little thing just as mysql never competes with oracle

[...] Alfresco ECM is 96% cheaper than legacy ECM vendors? If you are evaluating ECM solutions, particularly if you are interested in cost, you need to take a look at Alfresco’s TCO Whitepaper. In it, Alfresco uses licensing numbers they snagged from the United States government to compare the first year costs of their solution with EMC/Documentum, OpenText, and Sharepoint.
