It is a nice book and cover lots of details on how to implement and customize liferay pieces but sometimes you can get really confused and possibly get lost, there are lots of errors on code (which sometime I think that is not good code) and most part of them are not reflected on book errata. yes, ServiceBuilder on liferay 5.3.x doesn't work and It is reported on Liferay JIRA for long time with no soluction since my last try on it. Congrats for your book! I share exactly the same idea about it.
