I don’t know that this has been tested on 4.2.c. If I get some time in the next few days I’ll take a look. Or if someone else can test it against 4.2.c and resolve any issues, I’ll be happy to make you a committer on the project.

I tried the SVN download http://code.google.com/p/alfresco-get-latest-document/downloads/detail?name=get-latest-doc-dashlet.jar on Alfresco 4.2.c and I got a rather extensive error http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=BjM4n73n

Read the custom content types tutorial referenced here: http://ecmarchitect.com/alfresco-developer-series

The tutorial shows you how to use CMIS, which is the preferred way to retrieve data from Alfresco using Java.
