I haven’t looked at Aptrix yet but I think this could really beef up IBM’s portal suite.

Currently, when you run WebSphere Portal you have two choices in managing the content for your portal if you want to use an IBM product:

1. IBM Content Manager. CM requires a relational database (Oracle or DB2). Content Manager is bigger than just web content management. It can manage digital assets (video, audio, graphics), “documents”, etc. Many people use Content Manager separate from Portal. This option may require additional licensing depending on the version of Portal you purchase.

2. WebSphere Portal Content Publisher. WPCP is a lightweight web content management functionality provided with WebSphere Portal. WPCP can use Content Manager as a back-end data store but it does not have to. For workflow, WPCP can use a hard-coded, out-of-the-box workflow for simple workflow needs. Or, Lotus Workflow can be used, which requires a Domino server.
